Recently, we caught up with one of our DBC members, Sarah Marvez, to get a quick interview and see what’s going on in her busy life.
DBC: Thank you for talking with us Sarah. Can I start off by asking how long you’ve been climbing?
Sarah: I’ve been climbing for 10 years. I started climbing when I was a student at Northglenn High School. The club sponsor was a teacher named Andy Vartabedian, who is a big inspiration to me in climbing and life in general.
DBC: Why do you like Rock Climbing?
Sarah: I like to climb because of the challenge it presents physically and most important mentally. But the best part of climbing is the community. I love seeing my friends at the DBC, training and getting stronger together. Also, I love to travel and see friends from all over the world. If you’re a climber, you’re sure to be surrounded by positive people with inspiring goals, and that rubs off on you.
DBC: Why do you climb at the DBC?
Sarah: The DBC is the best gym for getting stronger on the Front Range. It’s pure and simple- plywood walls with good route-setting. Also, Dave Wahl has his Athletik Spesifik training gym in house. The vibe is really friendly but competitive in a good way. I always stay way past my bedtime.
DBC: What do you do to improve your climbing ability?
Sarah: I train with Athletik Spesifik twice a week, which keeps me in top shape, and I try to have consistency getting in as many sessions indoors and out as possible. Oh! I almost forgot, traveling is important. Nothing like a new area to get you motivated to try hard.
DBC: What is something members of the DBC don’t know about you?
Sarah: I have this thing for sports cars. If I could have any car, I’d probably buy a late eighties 911, then I’d never get anything done and never stop smiling.
DBC: Thank you for your time Sarah
