The Denver Bouldering Club is proud to organize a team for the upcoming American Diabetes Association (ADA) 5K walk/run on Saturday, Oct 23 8am – 1pm.
We’ve decided to support the ADA because so many people are facing a future with this life threatening disease. Diabetes is already effecting an estimated 7.8% of the United States, and according to the CDC, if current trends continue, 1 in 3 Americans will develop diabetes sometime in their lifetime.
We’ve already made great progress in this fight. From insulin to better testing to diet and exercise, we’re moving in the right direction. However, a lot about the disease still defies explanation. Perfectly healthy people are diagnosed every day, and the numbers keep climbing.
For this reason, we would like to ask for your help raising funds for the American Diabetes Association. You have the option of either joining the team and coming to the walk, or simply donating to any of the walkers on our team.
Here is a link to the DBC’s ADA page, set up by Thomas Betterton. There you can sign up or donate.
And here is an article that contains some interesting background info on the fight against diabetes. For more information on the ADA, please visit diabetes.org.
