Pizmon,

We heard your call, and we now have an adjustable systems wall. Feel free to come by on a Tuesday night and check it out, I think you will approve!

  urfaceBK wrote @

hey i heard you guys were going to spray the walls with holds. has that happened, or are yall going to keep setting?

Respectfully,

uRface

  charleslpayne wrote @

uRface,

We have put up hundreds of holds to fill the walls, so there is a lot of climbing to be discovered in the spray. In addition, we are still setting new routes all the time! As we get more members, and they let us know what holds they feel are missing, we’ll add to the spray. So, join up, and let us know what you want.

When are you guys going to let normal people with bills to pay have access to your gym on a regular basis (not just Tuesday) for a daily fee instead of a mandatory membership??

  charleslpayne wrote @

Guests are welcome if they are accompanied by a member any time. Tuesday nights sessions is a special time we can assuredly be available at the door to let new guests check the place out. Staffing is another bill we don’t want to be paying right now either.

However, I’m in there Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights most weeks–if you want to come any of those times, just email me and I can be your member access.

Cheers,

Lee

I stopped by tonight, and had a really good time. The route setting and music were great! I do have a few questions/suggestions, though.

There seemed to be a really big gap in difficulty between the easy and medium problems. I got every easy problem I did on my first try, but didn’t feel like I had a prayer of getting most of the medium routes. Do you think you will try to put up more moderate problems, or are you just focused on getting the really strong climbers?

Also, your mission says that you’re trying to keep the prices low, but the monthly fee is more than what I would pay at the Spot (I’m a student) if I committed to a full year, plus you have a joining fee. Have you thought about offering single month (no joining fee) memberships at a higher monthly price? I don’t know how that would work with the 24/7 access, etc., but I would be more likely to join if there were a month to month option.

Thanks for reading. You guys did a great job with the place!

Bhipps,

I’m glad you enjoyed your session! There was a lot of good energy last night.

I’m also glad you bring up that gap between easy and medium problems. This was something I noticed last week. So, on Sunday, I added a couple Hard Easy/Easy Medium routes (they both got an M) to the 20 degree wall. I got a lot of feedback on them last night, and they seem to be about right. So, I plan on adding to that difficulty range in the coming weeks. The DBC is not about any single difficulty range, we are about advancing the skill of our members at all levels. If that means more low-range Mediums, then we’ll be adding to that range. Note: Our next member setting night is coming up, if you happen to join soon, and want to have a hand in the route setting let me know.

As per our pricing: We’ve settled on the current rates based on a variety of reasoning. We are competitive with all other gym rates in the region, yet our offerings are more tailored to dedicated climbers. Not to mention, the ability for our members to climb at the facility whenever they want. The joining fee does a few things. It assures us that you are committed to the gym, giving us the peace of mind to hand over an access code for the front door, and more importantly, it jump-starts our ability to add your impact directly into the form and function of the gym. Since opening, we’ve bought hundreds of new holds, added a campus board, a systems wall, a training area, piped in additional air conditioning, and more. Our members have really bought into the gym, making the climbing experience as much thanks to them as anyone. We hope to continue to foster that kind of commitment and ownership in our members.

Thanks for your comment!

I’m a brand new member and pretty new climber and I was wondering if there could be some sort of calender on the website where people could post when they go to the gym. I don’t know any other climbers so this would help a lot. Also the nights that involve creating lines could be posted there.
Otherwise the gym is fantastic!

Mike,

This is a good idea. We just recently started our Facebook group, and will announce and manage events there going forward. Hit us up at the page with any more ideas!

  charleslpayne wrote @

Jon,

The walls all have climbing climbing up to 15 feet!
